Core Beliefs and Principles
The ten principles at the heart of the Unified Path of Light.
The principles
- UnityUPL holds that all existence is one, a manifestation of divine light, and honours how each tradition has named that single source.
- Spiritual Evolution and PracticeUPL calls for continuous spiritual growth through practice, and leaves each person free to find the disciplines that serve it.
- Ethical and Moral LivingUPL asks for justice, compassion and fairness in all dealings, and regular giving: ethics that is lived and not only believed.
- Inclusive Family Structures and Innate GoodnessUPL recognises families of every form, and holds that every person is born with a disposition towards goodness: each of us is light from the source.
- Compassionate ActionUPL calls for compassion towards all beings: it begins with those nearest and reaches the stranger, the opponent and every living thing.
- Interconnectedness and the Pursuit of KnowledgeUPL holds that nothing stands alone, and encourages lifelong learning in the spirit, the sciences and the arts, correcting our path as the evidence asks.
- Respect for the Wisdom of World TraditionsUPL holds that every tradition carries light, and learns from each in its own terms without claiming they all teach the same thing.
- Environmental StewardshipUPL asks its followers to live sustainably and protect the Earth, learning from indigenous peoples and from the scriptures.
- Community and Social WelfareUPL envisages a community whose members support one another in spirit and body, where no one is turned away and to lead is to serve.
- Positive Thinking, Gratefulness, and Mindful ActionUPL asks its followers to practise positive thinking, gratefulness and mindful action, and says where each comes from among the traditions.
