Gratitude Affirmations and Contemplative Practices

One of the core practices is the cultivation of a deep sense of gratitude, expressed through daily affirmations and contemplative reflection. This practice invites followers to consciously acknowledge the blessings of people, relationships, and material comforts that enrich their lives, fostering a profound sense of thankfulness and positivity. Gratitude is not a mere expression of thanks but rather a spiritual discipline that cultivates a positive outlook, an appreciation for life’s blessings, and recognition of the divine in every aspect of life. This practice is pivotal, reminding followers of their inherent unity with all of existence and their role in cultivating positive energy and harmony within their lives and the broader world.

Gratitude as a daily discipline is older than any one tradition. The Haudenosaunee begin and end their gatherings by giving thanks, in turn, to the people, the earth, the waters, the plants, the animals, the winds, the sun and the moon. The Qur’an promises that the grateful will be given more. In Seicho-No-Ie, thanks are offered to one’s ancestors as a regular practice.
