God, Quantum Physics, and the Light of Divinity

UPL envisions the universe as an intricate tapestry woven from the divine energy source, or simply divine light, with every particle and wave of energy as a reflection of this primordial luminance. This perspective roots itself in the profound belief that the cosmos is not merely a collection of material phenomena but a manifestation of divine light emanating from God, the ultimate source of all light. In this light, humans, alongside all creation, are seen as direct emanations of this divine essence, embodying the luminous connection that binds the universe together.

Drawing upon the revelations of quantum physics, UPL finds a parallel between the scientific understanding of the universe’s fundamental interconnectedness and the spiritual imagery of divine light. Quantum physics describes a reality where particles that have once interacted remain correlated however far apart they are, which it calls entanglement, and where, until a measurement is made, the theory gives only the probabilities of what it will find. UPL finds in these an image of the omnipresence and creative dynamism of the divine light. These scientific insights do not prove the spiritual intuition of a universe created and sustained by a singular, unifying light, and they do not contradict it.

God transcends anthropomorphic confines to embody the principle of light itself: the light that underpins and unites the cosmos. This divine light is the foundation of existence, guiding the cosmos from potentiality to reality and imbuing every particle with the essence of the divine.

God is not a person but the source. From that source flows a pure light, and all that exists, ourselves included, is light from it. Pure light holds many colours. Love, forgiveness, gratitude and every other positive feeling and action are the colours of God’s light, and whoever vibrates with any of them is vibrating in the light of God. Everyone is light from God. To practise love, forgiveness and gratitude amplifies what a person already is: it brings them closer to God and further from darkness, which is only the lack of light.

When the teachings speak of God’s love, they speak of the nature of the light itself and not of the feeling of a person. Other traditions have spoken of the same source: the Chandogya Upanishad says, “you are that”, and Seicho-No-Ie speaks of each person as a child of God, a being of spirit and not of matter.

UPL offers this as spiritual teaching, in the language of light, and not as a claim of physics.

Darkness has no source of its own. It is where the light is obscured, by ignorance, by fear or by harmful action. Suffering and illness are real, and they call for real help. Ethical living, mindful action and the working of karma and dharma are how what obscures the light is cleared.

Key concepts from quantum physics, such as non-locality, reflecting the divine light’s omnipresence, and potentiality, echoing the limitless creative possibilities of the divine, serve as analogies for spiritual truths. These principles illustrate the universe as a continuum of divine light emanating from God and manifesting in the myriad forms and phenomena of the cosmos. Setting quantum mechanics beside the concept of divine light offers a holistic view of existence, where the spiritual and scientific journey towards understanding the universe and our place within it is illuminated by the perpetual presence of divine light.
