Incorporating Various Forms of Meditation

UPL draws on three forms of meditation, each from a different tradition: the mindfulness and loving-kindness of Buddhism, the Shinsokan of Seicho-No-Ie, and the Hawaiian practice of hoʻoponopono, which is a way of setting relationships right more than a meditation in the usual sense. Each has its own page. A follower may take up any of them, or another practice that serves the same end.

The forms

  1. Buddhist Meditation PracticesMindfulness of breathing and the cultivation of love for all beings: two Buddhist practices a follower of UPL may take up.
  2. Shinsokan MeditationShinsokan, the prayerful meditation of Seicho-No-Ie: how it is practised, and what UPL takes from it and what it does not.
  3. Hoʻoponopono MeditationHoʻoponopono, the Hawaiian family practice of setting relationships right, and the modern four-phrase form adapted from it.
