Laozi and the Way of Harmony
Laozi is honoured as the sage to whom tradition attributes the Tao Te Ching. Whether he lived as one man is uncertain, and the book speaks for itself. It teaches the Tao, the Way: a source before heaven and earth that cannot be named, from which all things come. It praises water, which benefits all things and keeps to the low place; action that does not force; contentment; and three things to hold dear, which are gentleness, economy and not putting oneself first. Its trust in a nameless source, and in a life lived in harmony with it, stands close to UPL’s teaching of the divine light.
