Masaharu Taniguchi and the Power of Positive Thinking

Masaharu Taniguchi, founder of Seicho-No-Ie, is recognised for his contributions to understanding the transformative power of positive thinking and the realisation of the true self as inherently divine. His teachings, which emphasise the oneness of life and the universe, align with UPL’s view of the universe as a manifestation of divine light and underscore the importance of aligning one’s thoughts and actions with divine principles.

He founded Seicho-No-Ie in Japan in 1930. At the centre of his teaching is the True Image: the perfect world created by God, in which every person is a child of God. He taught that all religions emanate from one universal God, that what a person thinks, says and does shapes the world they meet, and that gratitude, to parents and ancestors above all, opens the way to harmony with all things. His holy sutra, the Nectarean Shower of Holy Doctrines, gives UPL its image of the body as the soul’s cocoon. UPL honours this teaching without taking up everything he said: it holds that illness and the material world are real, and his political views are no part of it.
